Hypertensive heart disease is the ailment of heart developed due to prolong hypertension. Hypertension causes an increase in the pressure in the blood vessels. This requires the heart to pump against higher back pressure needing more work to be done. Persistent hard work thickens the heart muscles and also increases the size of the left ventricle.
